Why Copywork Matters
In Classical and Charlotte Mason education, copywork is far more than handwriting practice; It shapes the mind through language.
In science, copywork often looks like writing definitions.
While that might seem dry, it forms the foundation for true reasoning. When a child copies beautiful or precise sentences, they are absorbing truth, order, and clarity.

In a culture that blurs the meaning of words, the habit of defining truth precisely gives children the ability to think logically, speak accurately, and defend truth graciously, whether it is in science, philosophy, or faith.
This is why the grammar stage of classical learning is so crucial; Definitions form the foundations of wisdom.
Copywork builds that foundation quietly, one sentence at a time.
How To Do Copywork For Science
Here's how to do copywork at home:
Choose a clear, well-written sentence (a glossary should have lots to choose from!)
Write it neatly at the top of your child’s copywork page
Have your child copy it slowly and carefully
Check for spelling, punctuation, and spacing
This gentle daily rhythm form habits that lead to both beautiful handwriting and beautiful thinking.

In the Copywork Guide and Templates, I provide some examples of sentences, using definitions of terms from the Scientific Method. You can use these sentences, or use your own sentences you find form rich text sources.
